Detox day eight
Miss Muppet and I have reached day 8 of the 12-day alleged detoxification. Some observations thus far:
1. After having really low energy for the first 2-3 days, we are feeling more lucid and energized. I'm not at the level I was at before - I've definitely had to cut back on the triathlon activities. However, that could be due to restless sleeping as well as diet. Our bed needs more sleepiness, I think.
2. Eating no wheat or dairy or high-sugar foods is REALLY difficult. Avoiding alcohol just takes mental discipline, but eating the right food goes far beyond discipline. You basically have to make everything yourself, because anything that is remotely pre-prepared will have some form of milk or wheat gluten. On the weekend we made spinach dahl, chicken tikka and a "brown rice with everything" salad. Making this stuff, and washing the associated dishes, takes a lifetime! As Miss Muppet observed, Indian mothers should be worshipped by their families for doing all this cooking-from-scratch every day.
3. Avoiding the above foods and drinks saves lots of money! We're eating at home almost all the time, thus saving cash. Being a student in the most expensive country in Christendom, saving cash is good.
4. It would really suck ass to have chronic lactose intolerance or celiac disease.
5. I want a roast chicken and swiss sandwich.... mmm.. slurp!
That's all for now. I have to go to class.

Not eating out is incredibly cash effective. I keep on making the point that everything in Paris is more expensive than in Canada, but somehow I spend less money. A large part of this is not going out to eat because I'm lazy or bored -- when I go out to a restaurant, I mean it.
Glenn already made a good point about reconstructing a diet from an era when you would almost certainly already be dead from old age, so I'll avoid that.
All my best wishes for the 'success' of your deluded hippy caveman foodfest!
Best of luck surviving your health regimen! I think I'll stop off at Swiss Chalet on the way home and get a $6 chicken sandwich meal, then afterwards I'll have a fruit smoothy.
Who's a bastard? Me, it's me!!
